The Wado Ichimonji Sword was one of the most effective swords that Zoro had in possession throughout the One Piece Anime series. The sword never got broken in the fiercest battles even against Dracule Mihawk (the best swordsman in the series). Zoro had personal attachments with his Childhood friend Kuina who died back when the two were young and kids. Kuina used to practice with the Wado Ichimonji. After her passing, her family gave the sword to Zoro, therefore, it became the first in his collection of Santoryou.
