The Hadhafang Sword does not exist in the original story in the books and has been created by Weta Workshop for the filmmakers of the movie The Lord of Rings. The name of the sword was newly coined and is meant to be ‘throng-cleaver’. The original concept of the sword included an additional line to the inscription that finally existed, which translated to mean ‘Idril, daughter of the King of the Hidden rock’.
However, this line was not added to the final version of the sword due to the lack of space on the final prop of the Hadhafang sword. In the movie, The Hadhafang Sword of Arwen can be seen in the hands of Elrond, when he is riding on horseback to fight his battle against the Hunter Orcs. Some people raised objections that the Hadhafang Sword of Arwen is a copy of a Japanese Sword, because of its slight resemblance to a katana.
